নাওমি শিহাব নাঈ | জন্ম ১৯৫২

একজন কবি, গীতিকার ও উপন্যাসিক। তাঁর বাবা ছিলেন ফিলিস্তিনের একজন রিফিউজি। মা আমেরিকান। মাত্র ছয় বছর বয়সে তিনি কবিতা লেখা শুরু করেন। তিরিশটিরও বেশি বইয়ের লেখক তিনি। কিশোর সাহিত্যেও তার যথেষ্ট বিচরণ রয়েছে। নাওমি শিহাব নাঈ-এর কাজের পরিধি ছড়ানো ছিটানো: লেখালেখির প্রায় সব মাধ্যমেই তাঁর অবদান আছে— যেমন আছে জনপ্রিয় শিশুতোষ বই, আছে নাটক, উপন্যাস আর কবিতা তো আছেই। সম্পাদনার কাজও করেছেন— তাঁর সম্পাদিত কবিতা সংকলনের নাম দিস সেইম স্কাই- যেখানে ৬৮ দেশের কবিতা দুই মলাটের ভেতর জায়গা নিয়েছে। বহু পুরস্কারে পুরস্কৃত কবি এখন টেক্সাসে বাস করেন।

কীভাবে জানব একটা কবিতা শেষ হয়ে গেছে

যখন তুমি চুপি চুপি কোনও ঘরের দরজা বন্ধ করে বেরিয়ে আসো
ঘরটা তখনই শেষ হয়ে যায় না

সে বিশ্রাম নেয়। সাময়িক।
তোমাকে ছেড়ে কিছু সময় সে একা আনন্দে কাটায়।

তারপর ধূলিকণা সংগ্রহের সময় বেরিয়ে আসে, তারা এক কোণ থেকে অন্য কোণে স্থানান্তরিত হয়।

তারপর সে তার নিজের ভেতর ফিরে আসে। নির্বিকার ও গর্বিত হয়ে যায় সে
সমস্ত রূপরেখা আরও দৃঢ় হয়ে ওঠে।

যখন তুমি ফেরো,
ঘরে ঢুকেই বইয়ের স্তূপগুলিকে সরিয়ে দিতে পারো, এমন কি গোলাপের জন্য বাতাস আরও বিশুদ্ধ করে দিতে পারো,

আমার মনে হয় তুমি এটা সারা জীবনই করে যেতে পারো। কিন্তু নীল চেয়ারটি লাল বালিশের সঙ্গেই বেশি মানানসই হয়ে ওঠে। তাই তুমি

ওটিকে ওর মতোই ছেড়ে দিতে পারো।

কোনও বাতাস ছিল না

জানি না সরাসরি এই মিথ্যে কেন আমি বলে ফেললাম
এমন একজনকে, যাকে আমি চিনিও না কোনওভাবে, কিন্তু সে যখন জানতে চাইল আমি দরজা বন্ধ করেছি কিনা
অভিযোগের সুরে না বলেছি, বলেছি বাতাস এসে এই দরজা আটকে দিয়েছে।

সে আমার দিকে অস্বাভাবিক ভাবে তাকিয়ে থাকে, দরজা ঠেলে খুলে দেয়, তারপর সেই রাস্তাতেই হারিয়ে যায়।

বাকি দিনটা আমি জিভের ওপর পাথর বসিয়ে
অদ্ভুত ভাবে ঘুরে বেরাতে থাকি।

রাস্তা

একজন লোক পৃথিবী ছেড়ে চলে যায়
তার থাকার রাস্তাটি
ধীরে ধীরে ছোট হয়ে আসে

এই শহরে আরও একটি জানালা
অন্ধকার হয়ে যায়, তার শাখায় শাখায় ডুমুরফল
পাখিদের জন্য আরও নরম হয়ে আসে।

আমরা যদি যথেষ্ট সন্ধের দিকে এখানে নীরবে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকি
মনে হবে যেন এখানে
একটি সম্পূর্ণ দল নীরবে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।
উচ্চস্বরের গ্র্যাকল পাখি চেয়ে নেয় তাদের গাছ
এবং আকাশ সেলাই করতে থাকে, অক্লান্ত ভাবে সেলাই করতে করতে
নামিয়ে দেয় বেগুনি আঁচল
প্রতিটা জিনিস যেন তার নিজের সময়ে লেগে আছে,
এভাবেই মানুষকে তার সময়ে দেখতে চাওয়া বোধ করি সুখের

কিছু মানুষ তো তাই করে। ঘুম সম্পূর্ণ করে তারা,
ঘুম থেকে উঠলে তাদের সতেজ দেখায়। অন্যরা একই সঙ্গে দু’টি পৃথিবীতে বাঁচে
হারিয়ে যাওয়া আর স্মৃতির পৃথিবী।
তারা দুবার ঘুমায়, একবার যারা চলে গেছে তাদের মুখ চেয়ে,
অন্যবার নিজেদের প্রয়োজনে। তারা গাঢ় স্বপ্ন দেখে,
তারা দ্বিগুন স্বপ্ন দেখে, একটা স্বপ্ন থেকে জেগে
পৌঁছে যায় অন্যটায়, তারা নাম ধরে ধরে
ছোট রাস্তাগুলোয় হাঁটে, তারপর তার প্রত্যুত্তর দেয়।
