জন্ম: ১৯০১ সালে, অস্ট্রো-হাঙ্গেরীয় সাম্রাজ্যের অংশ বুকোভিনায়। প্রথম কবিতার বই প্রকাশিত হয় ১৯৩৯ সালে। নাম ‘ডেয়ার রেগেনবোগেন’ (ইন্দ্রধনু)। সমালোচকদের মধ্যে বহুল প্রশংসিত হলেও বিশেষ সমাদৃত হয়নি পাঠকমহলে। কারণ, রোজ ছিলেন ইহুদি। জীবনের বড় অংশ বিভিন্ন টানাপড়েনের মধ্যে কাটিয়েছেন ইউরোপ এবং আমেরিকায়। জার্মান ছাড়াও লিখেছেন ইংরেজিতে। তাঁর দ্বিতীয় কবিতার বই ‘ব্লিন্ডার জোমা’ (অন্ধগ্রীষ্ম) ১৯৬৫ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়। এই পাঠকমহলে সাড়া ফেলে দেয়। জীবনের শেষ ভাগ কেটেছে জার্মানিতে। মৃত্যু ১৯৮৮ সালে।

কুসুমিত কুঁড়িরাও ঠিক সেভাবে কথা বলে ওঠে।

এই হাওয়ার বাড়িতে স্থিতু হয়ে যায়
এক মানুষকুসুম সময়।

এখনো উজ্জ্বল হয়ে আছে
ধূলিকণাগুলো,
যেগুলো একসময়
জীবন্ত রক্তমাংসের অংশ ছিল

আমাকে দুদণ্ড শান্তি
দিতে এল বুঝি-বা

সেই যৌবনের কালবেলা,
ভাবনাচিন্তা অঙ্কুরিত হয়ে ওঠার সময়,
হারিয়ে যাওয়া আত্মীয়, বন্ধু এবং
পাহাড়গুলো- সব, সব আছে সেখানে।
