শুভাপ্রসন্ন: বুদ্ধদেব দাশগুপ্তর (Buddhadeb Dasgupta) সঙ্গে আমার সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে যখন ও প্রচণ্ড ভাবে সংগ্রাম করছে। ছবির ভাবনা থাকলেও তখনও কবিতাই ওর প্রধান ভালবাসা। আমি সেই সময় একটি সংবাদপত্রের সঙ্গে যুক্ত ছিলাম। সেই সংবাদপত্রে লোকের প্রয়োজন হয়েছিল। আমি একজন সাংবাদিক বা কলমচিকে খুঁজছিলাম। এমন সময় বুদ্ধর সঙ্গে ট্রামে দেখা।

আমাদের মধ্যে নানা কথা হচ্ছিল। কথায় কথায় জানতে পারলাম ওর একটা চাকরি দরকার। সেই সময় ও খুব অসুবিধের মধ্যে ছিল। তখন আমি একটা চাকরি রয়েছে বলে ওকে জানাই। কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্য, যে টাকা বুদ্ধদেবকে দেওয়া হবে বলে সংবাদপত্রের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়েছিল, তাতে ওর হত না। শেষ পর্যন্ত চাকরিটা নেননি বুদ্ধদেব দাশগুপ্ত।

তারপর আস্তে আস্তে বুদ্ধদেব নানা রকমের লেখা লিখতে শুরু করল। ফিল্মের দুনিয়ায় চলে যায়। বুদ্ধদেব প্রথমত কবি হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত। তারই সঙ্গে সঙ্গে অনেক অসাধারণ ছবি করেছে। যদিও একটা ব্যাপারে ওর সঙ্গে আমার মনোমালিন্য হয়েছিল। একদিন বুদ্ধ আমাকে এসে জানাল বাপ্পী লাহিড়ীর প্রযোজনায় ও একটা ছবি করতে চলেছে। ছবির নাম– লাল দরজা।

কলেজ রো-তে আমার স্টুডিয়োয় টাঙানো একটা ছবি ওকে খুব হন্ট করেছিল। সেটা ওর ছবিতে ব্যবহার করার জন্য আমার কাছে পারমিশন চাইল। আমি বললাম ওটা তো পেইন্টিং। ওটা দিয়ে পোস্টার হবে না। আমি বরং তোমাকে নতুন ডিজাইন করে দিতে পারি। তখন ও খুব খুশি হয়ে কাজটা করে দিতে বলল।

আমি ‘লাল দরজা’র পোস্টার করে দিই। লেটারিং করে দিই। কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্যের বিষয়, তার কোনও কৃতজ্ঞতা স্বীকার করেনি বুদ্ধদেব। আর ও বলেছিল ১০ হাজার টাকা সাম্মানিক দেবে। ভুলে গিয়েছিল কিনা জানি না, সেটাও আর দেয়নি। ও আমার ছবি খুব ভালবাসত এবং মাঝেমধ্যে নিয়েও যেত।

ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে কিছু ঘটনা ঘটার পর বুদ্ধদেব অন্য বাড়িতে চলে যায়। আমার মেয়ে এবং ওর মেয়ে একই সঙ্গে পিয়ানো শিখত। যোগাযোগ থাকত সব সময়। বুদ্ধদেবের ছবি ভারতীয় ছবিতে অবদান রেখে গিয়েছে। সারা পৃথিবীতেই খ্যাতি পেয়েছে। সত্যজিৎ-মৃণাল পরবর্তী চলচ্চিত্র জগতে বুদ্ধদেব উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র হয়ে থাকবে নিঃসন্দেহে।
