১৯০১ সালে সাহিত্যে প্রথম নোবেল পান। যিনি ১৮৩৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ফ্রান্সের প্যারিসে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। ১৮৭০ সালে চিকিৎসকের ভুল চিকিৎসার কারণে স্যুলি প্র্যুদম চিরদিনের জন্য পঙ্গু হয়ে যান। ১৮৮৮ সালে তাঁর সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ সৃষ্টি ল্য বোনর (Le Bonheur, “সুখ”) প্রকাশিত হয়। এটি অমর মহাকাব্যের মর্যাদা পেয়েছে। নোবেল পুরস্কার থেকে প্রাপ্ত সব অর্থ দিয়ে একটি অনুদানমূলক পুরস্কারের ব্যবস্থা করে যান। এটি নবীন লেখকদের উৎসাহ দেয়ার জন্য প্রদান করা হয়। এখনও ফ্রান্সে এই পুরস্কারের রীতি চালু আছে।
