নরম সূর্যধোয়া রঙে প্লাবিত ইউরোপবাসীরা, দেখো,
সুরাতের ছবিতে মন্ত্র মুগ্ধ মানুষগুলোকে দেখেছো?
ভদ্র সমাজ বসে আরাম করছে,
চিন্তায় হারিয়ে গিয়ে ইউরপিয়ানরা কোথায় ঘুরে বেড়ায়?
সুরাত এঁকেছেন সেই নিসর্গ চিত্রখানি,
আকর্ষণীয় দৃশ্যের অপর প্রান্তে রয়েছে একটি দীর্ঘ অলস নৌভ্রমণ,
এ ছবি শনিবার বিকালের নয়, বরং একটি রবিবারের,
সুরাত একে স্পষ্ট করেছেন তার কিছু বিশেষ পদ্ধতির মাধ্যমে,
তিনি বেশ জোর গলায় বলতেন– ‘আমার পদ্ধতি’,
যখন আমরা জানতে চেয়েছিলাম তাঁর কাছে
তিনি আমাদেরকে ধরিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন কিছু হিমসবুজ ছায়ারাশি,
দূরের নদীটি তখন নিজের ঠোঁট দু’টি খুলছিল এবং বন্ধ করছিল
নদীটি সুরাতকে চুম্বনে আপ্লুত করছিল।

আড়াআড়ি চকচকে তলগুলো নিসর্গের বাইরে চলে গেল,
তার মুষ্টি ভরা, ব্রাকের ক্ষতি। তাই তিনি
তাদের আকৃতি ভেঙেছেন। এবং ব্রাকের মতে ‘প্রকৃতি মৃত,’।

বৃহৎ এবং ক্ষুদ্র বিষয়ে কিছু কথা

বড় ব্যাপার হল– বায়ু, অশুভ শক্তি, একটি ভাল যুদ্ধের ঘোড়া,
সংযোগ তৈরি করা শব্দ, অসীম প্রেম, মানুষ যে উপায়ে
তাদের রাজা বেছে নেয়। ক্ষুদ্র জিনিসগুলোর মধ্যে ময়লা থাকে,
দর্শনের স্কুলগুলোর নাম, মেজাজ এবং
মেজাজ না থাকা, সঠিক সময়। সামগ্রিকভাবে
ছোট জিনিসের চেয়ে বড় জিনিস সংখ্যায় বেশি,
তবুও আরও কিছু ছোটখাটো জিনিসপত্র রয়েছে–
আমি এখানে লিখেছি, কিন্তু এই তালিকা বানানো
একটা হতাশাজনক ব্যাপার। যখন আমি ভাবি যে
আপনি এইগুলি পড়ছেন, আমি চাই না যে আপনি
এগুলোর মধ্যে আবদ্ধ থাকুন, যেমন
কাচের সঙ্গে রেখাযুক্ত তারের জাল দিয়ে পৃথক করা
আপনার জীবন, এলেকট্রা-র মতো।
