হুমায়ুন কবীরের জন্ম পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার ডেবরা থানার অন্তর্গত বনবারাসতি গ্রামে। গ্রামেই পড়াশুনা গ্রামেই বেড়ে ওঠা। দশগ্রাম সতীশ্চন্দ্র সর্বার্থসাধক শিক্ষাসদনের ছাত্র পরবর্তীকালে উদ্ভিদবিদ্যায় (প্রথম শ্রেণিতে প্রথম) এবং পি এইচ ডি। কয়েকমাস শিক্ষকতার পর পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সিভিল সার্ভিস পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে পুলিশের চাকরিতে যোগদান। পশ্চিম দিনাজপুর, পুরুলিয়া, মুর্শিদাবাদ, উত্তর চব্বিশ পরগনা, হাওড়া, দক্ষিণ চব্বিশ পরগনা, দার্জিলিং, গোয়েন্দা বিভাগে বিভিন্ন পদে কাজ করেছেন। বীরভূম, বর্ধমান এবং মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার পুলিশ সুপারিন্টেনডেন্ট পদে কাজ করেছেন। কলকাতা পুলিশের প্রাক্তন যুগ্ম -কমিশনার দার্জিলিং রেঞ্জের ডি আই জি পদে ছিলেন উত্তাল গোর্খাল্যান্ড আন্দোলনের সময়। বর্তমানে চন্দননগর পুলিশ কমিশনরাটের পুলিশ কমিশনার পদে কর্মরত। ২০০১-২০০২ সালে সংযুক্ত রাষ্ট্রসংঘের হয়ে বসনিয়া-হারজিগোভিনাতে পিস কিপিং ফোর্সের আধিকারিক হিসাবে কাজ করেছেন। বন-জঙ্গল, পাহাড় আর সমুদ্র প্রেমী এই মানুষ আদতে প্রকৃতিবিদ হতে চেয়েছিলেন।

আসিয়ানা

আম্মি, আব্বু কোথায় খাবে? কিসে রান্না করবে? আমরাতো সব হাঁড়ি নিয়ে নিয়েছি।

ট্রাঙ্ক গোছাতে গোছাতে আট বছরের সাদিয়ার কথায় ঘুরে দাঁড়ায় নাফিসা। বার বার একই প্রশ্নের উত্তরে বিরক্ত হয়ে বলে, তুমি জিজ্ঞাসা করে নাও।

আব্বুতো কিচ্ছু বলছে না, আমি জিজ্ঞাসা করেছিলাম। একটু থামে সাদিয়া, এগিয়ে এসে নাফিসার হাতে হাত ছুঁইয়ে বার বার ইশারা করে, কানে কানে কিছু বলতে চায়। চরম ব্যস্ততা সত্ত্বেও সামান্য ঝুঁকে সাদিয়ার মুখের কাছে কান নিয়ে যায় নাফিসা।

আব্বুকে যদি আমার হটকেসে খাবার পৌঁছে দিই, আমি পারব আম্মি, তুমি বিশ্বাস কর, আমি পারব অটোতে চেপে দন্ডিরহাট চলে আসতে।

নাফিসা সোজা হয়ে দাঁড়ায়, কামরায় চোখ বুলিয়ে নিচ্ছে শেষবারের মত, চোখ আটকে যায় দেওয়ালে টাঙানো খাজা বাবার দরগার ফটোটাতে, টুলে চেপে হাত বাড়ায় ওটা খুলে নিতে, নাহ থাক, হাত সরিয়ে নেমে আসে টুল থেকে, এটা নাফিসা কিনেছিল নিজের পয়সা দিয়ে। আসলে জামশেদ খাজা বাবার খুব ভক্ত, একমাত্র খাজাবাবার দরগাতেই ও যায়, তাই ওটা থাক ওর জন্য। মনে পড়ে যায় বিয়ের চার মাসের মাথায় আজমীর যাওয়ার কথা, দিল্লি থেকে ট্রেনে চেপে ভোর বেলায় পৌঁছাল ওরা দুজন, সেটা ছিল উরুষের সময়, থৈ থৈ ভিড় দেখে ঘাবড়ে গিয়েছিল নাফিসা, শক্ত করে ধরেছিল জামশেদের হাত। ও ভয় পেয়েছে বুঝতে পেরে জামশেদ ওর কাঁধ জড়িয়ে ধরে বলেছিল, আমিতো আছি সঙ্গে, যদি দেখ দরগায় একসঙ্গে মহিলা পুরুষ ঢুকতে দিচ্ছে না আর যদি তুমি হারিয়ে যাও, এই টিকিট কাউন্টারের নীচে পৌঁছে যেও, ঘুরে ফিরে আসব এখানেই। স্রোতের মত ভিড়ে ও প্রায় লেপ্টে ছিল জামশেদের গায়ে গায়ে, দরগার ভিতরে ঢুকেছিল একসঙ্গেই, অনেক ধাক্কাধাক্কিতেও একবারের জন্য হাত ছেড়ে দেয়নি নাফিসার, প্রচণ্ড চাপ নিজের উপর নিয়ে ওকে সামলে রেখেছিল জামশেদ।

দরগায় জিয়ারত করে সদর গেট দিয়ে বেরিয়ে ওরা ঢুকেছিল চুড়ি কিনবে বলে, জামশেদ অনেক চুড়ি কিনে দিয়েছিল সেদিন, কাঁচের ছিলই, গালারও ছিল, তার কয়েকটা আজও আছে ওর ট্রাঙ্কে। ওই দোকান থেকেই কিনেছিল এই দরগার সোনালি ফ্রেমে বাঁধান ফটো। ঐদিনই রাতে ফেরার সময় ট্রেনের রিজার্ভ টিকিট না পেয়ে দু’শ টাকা কুলিকে দিয়ে দুটা বসার সিট জোগাড় করেছিল, তিনজনের সিটে পাঁচ জন, জানালার ধারে ওকে বসিয়ে জামশেদ নিজে বসেছিল কুঁকড়ে, সারারাত জেগে ছিল যাতে ওর গায়ে চাপ না পড়ে, কেউ গায়ে হাত না দেয়।

চোখ জ্বালা করতেই, মন সরিয়ে নেয় আজমীর থেকে। তক্তপোশের চেপ্ট যাওয়া ময়লা তোষক উল্টে দেখে কিছু রয়ে গেল কিনা, সাদিয়ার দাঁতের ডাক্তারের প্রেশক্রিপশন, দাঁত পড়ার সময় ব্যাথা হতে ডাক্তার দেখাতে হয়েছিল, প্রেশস্ক্রিপশন ভাঁজ করে ব্যাগে রাখে, আবার লাগতে পারে। উল্টেপাল্টে দেখে কাগজগুলো, কয়েকটা দোকানের ফর্দর সঙ্গে ওর হাতের লেখা একটা চিঠির কোনা দেখতে পেয়ে হাতে তুলে নেয়, বছর চোদ্দ আগের লেখা, বিয়ের মাস আটেক আগের লেখা। নিজের লেখা চিঠি পড়ে নিজেই লজ্জা পায়, ইনিয়ে বিনিয়ে তাড়াতাড়ি বিয়ে করার কথা লেখা জামশেদকে। এটা এখনও রেখে দিয়েছে জামশেদ! মাটির বাড়ি ভেঙ্গে এক কামরার পাকা বাড়ি বানিয়েছে ওরা, সব লন্ডভন্ড হলেও চিঠিটা ফেলে দেয়নি জামশেদ, কোথায় রেখেছিল কে জানে, এই তক্তপোশটাই তো আনা হয়েছিল নতুন!

সেদিন দুপুরবেলায় বাড়ির সবাইকে লুকিয়ে ইটিন্ডাঘাটে এসেছিল নাফিসা, ওদিকটায় ওদের বাড়ির বা পাড়ার চেনা জানা কেউ যায় না, জামশেদ অনেক আগেই চলে এসে অপেক্ষা করছিল যাতে নাফিসা এসে আতান্তরে না পড়ে। নাফিসা আসতেই ওকে নিয়ে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে ইছামতির পাড় দিয়ে ইট ভাটার কাছটায় গিয়ে বসেছিল শিমুল গাছের গোড়ায়, মাস ছয়েকের প্রেমের পর সেই প্রথম জামশেদ ওর কাঁধে হাত রেখেছিল, ওর ওই হাতের ছোঁয়া নাফিসাকে কাঁপিয়ে দিয়েছিল, বার বার শিহরন খেলেছিল ওর শরীরে। হায়ার সেকেন্ডারি পরীক্ষার পর রেজাল্টের জন্য অপেক্ষা করার সময় ওটা। বদরতলা হাসপাতালের পিছনে সূর্য ডুবে যাওয়ার পর আদর কাড়তে জামশেদের গালে গাল ঘষেছিল নাফিসা, খুব আশা করেছিল জামশেদ একটা চুমু খাবে, নাহ, জামশেদ সেসব কিছু করেনি। বাড়ি ফিরে রাত জেগে লেখা এই চিঠি।

ত্রিমোহিনিতে নিজেদের বাড়ির সামনেই রাস্তার উপর কাশ্মীরি ছেলে জামশেদের ফলের দোকানে ফল কিনতে যেত নাফিসা, ওখান থেকেই একতরফা প্রেম, জামশেদের তেমন আগ্রহ দেখেনি কোনদিন, শুধু প্রেম কেন, কোন কিছুতেই যেন কোন উৎসাহ নেই, উদ্যোগহীন আবেগছাড়া নিঃস্পৃহ এক মানুষ। কলেজে ভর্তি হয়েছে মাত্রই মাস পাঁচেক হবে, আব্বা -আম্মি ওর বিয়ে দেওয়ার জন্য উঠে পড়ে লেগেছে তখন, হাজার বলেও ওদের নিরস্ত করা যাচ্ছে না, একের পর এক সম্বন্ধ আসছে আর নাফিসা ভয়ে কাঁটা। আব্বা, তুমিতো নিজে হাই স্কুলের শিক্ষক তাহলে তুমি কেন এমনটা করছ?

বিয়ের পর পড়তে কোন অসুবিধা নেই, উঠতি মেয়ে কখন কি অঘটন ঘটিয়ে ফেলে উত্তেজনার বশে, এই ছিল আব্বার বক্তব্য। সেই অঘটনটাই ঘটল আব্বা-আম্মির চাপের ফলে, বাড়ি থেকে পালিয়ে গেল নাফিসা। আব্বা-আম্মি থানায় অভিযোগ করল জামশেদ ওকে নিয়ে পালিয়েছে, কিন্তু ঘটনটা উল্টো। দীঘা-মান্দারমনি ঘুরে ক’দিন পরেই ফিরে এল ওরা, ফোন করে নাফিসাই জানাল ওদের বিয়ের কথা, আব্বা দৌড়ে গেল থানায়।

না মাস্টারমশাই, প্রাপ্ত বয়স্ক দুই নরনারীর মহাব্বতের দুশমন নয়ই আমরা, বার বার মুখ পোড়াতে চাই না, মুরগির সুরুয়া করে দামাদকে দাওদ দিন, চিমটি কাটা কথা থানার বড় দারোগার।

ছিঃ, রাস্তার হকারকে দাওদ দেবে, লজ্জায় মাথা হেঁট হয়ে গেল মাস্টারমশাইয়ের, পাড়ার কাউন্সিলরকে বলে জামশেদকে বাড়ির সামনে থেকে উচ্ছেদ করল, কিন্তু দন্ডিরহাটে ওর মাটির বাড়ি থেকে মেয়েকে ফিরিয়ে আনতে পারল না। ফল দোকান নিয়ে জামশেদ ভ্যাবলা চৌমাথায় সরে গেল। হকারের বাড়িতে আমার মেয়ে আছে, অত আদরের মেয়ে হকারের বাড়িতে! লজ্জায়, দুঃখে ভ্যাবলা চৌমাথা যাওয়া ছেড়ে দিল নাফিসার আব্বা।

শুধু ফল না বেচে সঙ্গে কাজু-কিসমিস, অন্যান্য বাদাম ইত্যাদি বেচ। সসদোকানে বাদাম আনাতে মাস পাঁচেক লেগেছিল জামশেদের, তবেই মাটির বাড়ি ভেঙ্গে আজ এক কামরার পাকা বাড়ি, সঙ্গে রান্নাঘর আর বাথরুম। নাফিসা বাড়ির নাম দিল আসিয়ানা। তবেই সাদিয়াকে আনতে সাহস হয়েছিল। সাদিয়া হওয়ার পর আব্বা-আম্মির সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক খানিকটা স্বাভাবিক হলে আব্বা টাকা দিতে চাইল, কাপড় বা অন্য কিছুর দোকান করতে বল না! জামশেদের ওই এক কথা আমি ফল ব্যবসা ছাড়া আর কিচ্ছু বুঝি না। দেখতে দেখতে গড়িয়ে গেল আরও কয়েকটা বছর, একগুয়ে জামশেদ শোধরাবে না!

বছরখানেক আগে নাফিসা খোলাপোতা প্রাইমারী স্কুলে মাস্টারি পেয়ে গেল, তাই সাহস পেল জামশেদেকে ছেড়ে দেওয়ার, সত্যি কথা বলতে কি তিল তিল করে শেষ হয়ে যাচ্ছিল নাফিসা। আব্বার পুরান কথাগুলো বার বার করে বিবেককে কষে থাপ্পড় লাগায়। মেয়ে বড় হচ্ছে, আব্বা কি করে কেউ জানতে চাইলে বলতেই হয়, ফল বেচে। কয়েক বছর যেন খুব গায়ে লাগছিল নাফিসার, স্পষ্ট করে বলল, আমার তালাক চাই!

কিছুক্ষন ফ্যাল ফ্যাল করে তাকিয়েছিল জামশেদ, ফ্যাস ফ্যাসে গলায় বলল, ভাল করে ভেবে নাও, তুমি চাইলে তাও পাবে!

স্কুলে যেতে সুবিধা হয় এই অজুহাতে আব্বাদের বাড়ির লাগোয়া ত্রিমোহিনিতে একটা বাড়ি ভাড়া নিয়েছে, মেয়েকে নিয়ে সম্মানের সঙ্গে বাঁচবে নাফিসা। আর ভাববার কোন অবকাশ নেই, কোন প্রতিবাদ করল না জামশেদ, গতকাল সন্ধ্যায় তালাক হয়ে গেল।

অনেক কেঁদেছে এই সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে তাই নতুন করে আজ আর কাঁদবে না, চিঠিটা তক্তপোশের উপর থেকে তুলে নিয়ে ভাঁজ করে ব্যাগে রাখে, বেরিয়ে আসে বাইরে। সাইকেল চালিয়ে ফিরল জামশেদ, কদিন আগে মেয়ে বায়না ধরেছিল এলসার মত নীল জামা চাই এবার ঈদে। ওটাই অর্ডার দিয়ে কলকাতা থেকে আনিয়েছে জামশেদ। সাইকেল থেকে নামতেই ছুটে যায় সাদিয়া, আব্বার হাত থেকে প্যাকেট নিয়ে গালে একটা চুমু দেয়।

জড়ান গলায় ঘড় ঘড় করে নাফিসা বলে, এখন যেন প্যাকেটটা খুলতে যেও না।

দুটো রিক্সা ভ্যানে মালপত্র চাপান হয়ে গেছে, জামশেদ জিজ্ঞাসা করল, কোন কিছু রয়ে গেল নাতো?

আরে তের বছরের বেশী জামশেদের সঙ্গে ঘর করেছে, হাজারো স্মৃতি রয়ে গেছে এখানে, সব কিছু কি গুটিয়ে নেওয়া যায়!

আঙিনায় কাঁঠাল গাছের উপরের ডালে ঘুঘুর বাসার দিকে তাকায় একবার, না শেষটায় আটকান গেল না, ঝর ঝর করে চোখের কোনা দিয়ে গড়িয়ে পড়ছে উষ্ণ জল।

পায়ে পায়ে এগিয়ে এসেছে সাদিয়া, জড়িয়ে ধরেছে আম্মিকে, ফিস ফিস করে বলে, আব্বুকেও সঙ্গে নিলে হয় না!
